We are excited to host you this weekend. Here are a few important points about Saturday’s race (criterion).
The park will open (see link below for directions at 5:45 am. This will give you time to get into the lot and prepare your gear and warm up before the first race. The ranger will close the park to traffic at approximately 6:15am.
The course/park will not be open to the public. If you arrive AFTER 6:15am, you will have to wait till after the first race to get in to the park (approximately 6:50am).
We have secured the Dogwood Lot inside the park as a staging area, which is 3/4 around the loop after the guard house at entrance to the park. The park is a one way street – so just follow the road to the last parking area. If you get back to the starting loop – you went too far. You will see our tents. Make a right to get into the lot. It has bathrooms and an accessible port-o-john and plenty of space park and warm up.
The schedule is as follows
Beginners race – will start at 6:30am to 6:50am (20 minutes).
Advanced race – will start at 7:15am to 7:45am (30 minutes).
Park opens at 8:00am and we will need to be done racing at that point.
Following the races, we will have a light refreshments. Participants can stay for the day and enjoy the park if they choose.
If you are coming from the host hotel, the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel located downtown, we will be leaving as a group at 5:15am for the ride to the park. If you would like us to take your racing bike to the park in our box truck, it is leaving the hotel at 5:00am. You MUST make arrangements with us to load it Saturday morning by 5:00am.
If you are driving directly to the park, Here is a map for directions. http://survivorharbor7.com/pepsipva-wheelchair-championship/
Rules
The course is a 1.1 mile loop. Each race is determined by time not the number of laps. There will be a clock at the start/end line and as we get within 6-7 minutes before finish time, we will announce 2 laps to go and a bell lap (final lap). All racers will complete their final lap after they hear the bell. Volunteers will keep count of all laps to ensure the finishing order is complete.
As a first year’s event, there is no prize money however EVERY racer will receive a free Bike Jersey courtesy of Kelly Benefits Services. You can pick those up at the race.
